The inline-eight engine is an internal combustion engine that consists of eight cylinders that are mounted along a crankcase in straight line. It is also known as straight eight. It has been built in overhead valve, overhead cam and side valve configurations.

The straight-8 helps in achieving good primary and secondary balance, as unbalanced primary and secondary moments or forces are not present. But, torsional vibration in crankshaft that is present in all the engines to some extent makes the requirement of harmonic damper in the crankshaft accessories. If this damping is not used then close to the rear main bearing journal, fatigue cracking can happen. This can further cause the failure of engine.

The inline-six engine also provides good primary and secondary balance. But, the straight-8 produces more number of power strokes in one revolution. Because of this, the straight-8 runs in a smoother manner when put under load as compared to inline six.

The V12 engine consists of 12 cylinders that are mounted on a crankcase. There are two banks in it having six cylinders each. The angle between them is generally sixty degrees but it is not true in all cases. The common crankshaft is driven by all the 12 pistons. Each bank could be regarded as straight-6.

The configuration used here has very good primary as well as secondary balance. This is true irrespective of the V angle used. Hence, balance shafts requirement is also no there. The V12 engine consisting of two banks having six cylinders each placed at 60 degrees or 180 degrees with each other allows even firing in it.

The power pulses that are delivered per revolution are twice as compared to straight-6 engine. In heavy duty, large displacement engines V12 could be run slower as compared to smaller engines. This increases the life of engine.

The VRSC family from Harley-Davidson consists of cruiser motorcycles. It was launched in 2001 with one model known as V-Rod. The company produced V-Rod to provide competition to the American and Japanese muscle bikes. This model utilized revolution engine for its working.

Harleys for the first time included overhead cams, liquid cooling and fuel injection in it. V-Rod has a very distinguishing look as compared to the other models from Harleys. It consists of a V twin 60 degree engine.

The V-Rod has the fuel tank placed beneath the seat. The position of the driver is on its top. This bike derives its inspiration from VR-1000 superbike. The different models of VRSC are built at Kansas City in Missouri.

Harleys launched VRSCDX Night Rod Special in the model year 2007. The engine of this model was enhanced from 1130cc to 1250cc in 2008. The torque produced by it is 85ftlbf @ 7000rpm. The power that it can produce is 125 hp.

Ferrari 599 GTB has a V12 65° engine. It has a displacement of 366.08 cu in. The compression ratio here is 11.2:1. The maximum power it produces is 456kw at 7600rpm. The maximum torque of the engine is 608 Nm at 5600 rpm. The car is available in two different transmissions one is F1 and second is manual. The gearbox consists of six gears and the reverse gear. It can attain a maximum speed of over 205 mph. It has simply awesome pickup that starts from 0 to 100 kmph in only 3.7 seconds. It can attain a speed of 0 to 200 kmph in only 11 seconds.

Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano has a bonnet with a bulge. The air intakes for fuel tank as well as gear cooling system are symmetrical with front air diffuser. Wheel rims are designed in stylish manner and consist of double spokes for saving weight. A new aerodynamic design is used in the cabin as well. This model has LED rear lights at the tail.
